Today was definitely Monday…
I started the day off by forgetting my carefully prepared lunch on the counter. So, that means the chicken breast and veggies went bad AND I had to pay for lunch. Damn. Of course, I realized I forgot it right as I was stepping on the subway. Just in time to not have time to go back to my room!
I worked, worked and worked and then when lunch time came I got…
Salad w/ turkey, tomatoes and beets and a little sweet potato and a diet pepsi. I’m cutting back on the soda, but today was just one of those days I needed the toxic chemicals (ha ha). I, of course, somehow grabbed a spoon instead of a fork, so yes, I ate my salad with a spoon. It can be done, just not very gracefully. 🙂
Worked, worked, worked…
Then, snack time = an apple and peppermint tea.
Crazy day, huh?
I skipped my usual coffee in the afternoon and I could definitely tell. I need that kick to get more things done in the afternoon at work. I love that extra boost around 3 p.m.
Sooo… I got an iced coffee on the way home and had some turkey and crackers for a snack.
I am always desperate to get to the gym by around 7. My body needs to move or I go crazy! I did intervals on the rowing machine for 45 minutes, which is really fun. It’s hard, but it makes things interesting and it’s a lot more challenging than mindlessly rowing at a slow pace (don’t get me wrong — I still do that sometimes, too!)
I did strength exercises including squats, lunges, push-ups, triceps dips, rows, ab exercises, med ball exercises, etc.
Dinner included a black bean burger, spinach, asparagus, leftover blueberry crisp and, my beloved carrot cake. I knew I would want it on a Monday. 🙂 Glad I saved it! Perfect source to replenish your body after a hard workout. 😉 I haven’t had it in forever, so I was clearly due for a piece. I recommend Whole Foods carrot cake. It’s the best.
So that’s my eating/exercising today in a nutshell. I totally slacked on pics. Oops! Just one of those days…
I’m about to do some evening yoga. It’s really helping me stretch out my aching muscles. I really look forward to some time where I can just let go and relax in my day. Why haven’t I done this before? YouTube videos make it easy because they are short and I can plug a routine into my day at any time. Perfect for my lifestyle!
I read a study today that said that most people overestimate their calorie expenditure from exercising and underestimate and underestimate how many cals they consume after the sweat session. Totally makes sense! It’s good to understand that exercise CAN put a dent in your calories for the day, but don’t count on it giving you the wiggle room to inhale a bag of chips. That is, unless you are training for an ultra marathon or the like. I only look at exercise as a time to relieve stress and work to keep my body strong. I don’t look at it as a means to “burn off” the food I had during the day. Personally, I think that mind-set is super dangerous. You can’t live your life like that. I would be miserable if I did. I don’t count calories, either. I know what I should and shouldn’t be eating and I know what my portions should look like. As long as I keep to those guidelines (most of the time) I know I will be fine. Spending life counting calories in and out is just a waste of my precious time and I sure as hell don’t want to live my life that way! Sorry about my rambling, I think it’s time I start the yoga video and cleanse my mind. 🙂
