Well considering I haven’t posted since before Christmas, I think it’s time for an update! I’m currently recovering from a day full of shopping and packing. I leave for NYC on FRIDAY! It’s crunch time. I’m now in the stage where I need to pare down and squeeze my life into four suitcases for five months. Reasonable, right? I’m really not a shopper, and I despise packing (who doesn’t), so this has been a less than enjoyable experience. But seriously, I don’t have any room to complain! I could not be more excited to intern at a magazine in NYC. It’s going to be one heck of an adventure, and I’m ready for it. Once I get my suitcases closed, that is.

Does shopping count as a workout? It sure seems like it. I always get frazzled trying on seemingly millions of outfits. My hair gets messed up and half of the pants never fit correctly. Alas, I will shut up about shopping issues and get to other, more important, business.

I was recently accepted to the NYC Half Marathon! Whooo! I get to run through Central Park, Midtown Manhattan (Times Square!), and South Street Seaport. It’s on March 18 and I started my training today. It will be a little tricky because my schedule is jam-packed and I want to do my best at my internship and enjoy my time in the city. As with anything, it’s doable with a balanced schedule. I did a 45 minute tempo run today on the treadmill. I need to get used to the treadmill now because it will be where most of my runs take place next semester. I’m following Hal Higdon’s Half marathon training schedule. Hal conveniently has a beginner, intermediate and advanced schedule. My plan is to shoot for the advanced runs when I can, but if time is short or I’m wiped out, I can most definitely do the beginner or intermediate run for that day. This will allow me to be flexible with my training and not feel guilty.

SIDENOTE: I applied to run in the NYC Marathon in November. However, I don’t find out if I’m in until April 23. I would die of happiness if I got accepted!

My current favorite breakfast is an idea that I saw in Self magazine. My favorite magazine! I toast two Kashi waffles and spread 2/3 cup Greek yogurt on top of them. Then I top it with fruit. I have used apple slices warmed up with cinnamon, blueberries and strawberries. All of them make for a delicious meal! Next I top it with an ounce of pumpkin seeds. If I’m craving a sweet kick then I sprinkle on some Truvia.

I made a refreshing salad for lunch. I used mixed greens, Feta cheese, grilled chicken, sliced apples and Balsamic Vinaigrette.

It makes me want another one just looking at it. Except it’s 11 at night so I think I should refrain from doing so! Although, I do have a new favorite evening snack. I get organic popcorn from Whole Foods with no additives, sugar or flavoring and add some garlic herb and basil to it. So delicious! You can also add cinnamon instead of the garlic for a sweeter taste.
