I just read a blog written by an intern in NYC that was really interesting. http://edinterndiaries.blogspot.com/2011/08/trying-to-stay-motivated-when-your-job.html This quote stuck out to me…
“The creatively strong survive. It takes a lot of courage and determination to make it out here. There will be many paths to choose and some may not always be the best. Try not to get caught up in the scene. It can destroy people. Be careful who you trust . New York and Los Angeles are both cities of dreams, and your dreams and motivations have to be strong or they will be lost in the confusion of these cities.”
My dream is to work in the magazine industry in New York City. It actually took a lot of experiences and soul searching to figure out what I wanted out of a career. It wasn’t until the end of my sophomore year of college that I really pinpointed my career of choice. Even then, it made me nervous. The magazine industry is super competitive and hard to break into. It is full of unknowns. I went back and forth, toying with the idea of a physical therapist, dietician and yes, even a bariatric physician. I had started out as an exercise science major so I could go to med school and become a doctor. Yes, that journey would be hard too. It still felt more safe. Safe has never been and never will be the name of the game for me. I dip my feet into everything before I make a decision. It’s a blessing or a curse depending how you look at it. So that was it. I am going for it. I don’t know what the future will bring but I do know this. As beautiful and exciting as a destination might seem, it is even more important to enjoy the journey. Your life is the journey just as much as it is the destination. The journey shapes and molds your character and your ever changing perspective in this crazy world. I am enjoying my journey and that is why I know that I am on the right path and aiming for the right destination. I love writing every single day. I love reading other people’s articles. I love learning to see life from a different point of view though books and magazines. I love meeting interesting new people that share a creative passion that is needed in the magazine industry. I love being able to inspire, inform and help others by writing articles about how to live a healthy and happy life. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. It combines everything I am passionate about in life. Writing, health, fitness, inspiration, reading, learning, creativity, fresh perspectives, ideas, open minds, an opportunity to help other people succeed… the list goes on. A magazine is a beautiful culmination of passion about a certain topic. What could be better than that? It isn’t the safe road, but it is my road of choice. For now I am going to work hard, live in the moment and enjoy this exciting journey. The unknowns can turn into the best of the best in life.
