Its that time of year…

Less motivation + More yummy sweets + Outrageously long to-do lists = Health Havoc!

“To ensure good health: Eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.” -William Londen

It is all about balance! Don’t give up on your health during the holiday season. Just balance your sweets with exercise, and nutritious meals and you will feel revved up with energy and be ready to ring in the New Year! 🙂

I’m going to start digging up some recipes that I experimented with this summer and sharing them! These are perfect recipes for college students because they are quick and easy.

Zesty Southwestern Pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole grain tortilla
  • Marinara Sauce (About 2 spoonfuls)
  • Chopped up tomatoes
  • Onions (Fresh or crunchy)
  • Pinch of basil
  • Shredded cheese (If you have to be resourceful- Cut string cheese into sections and sprinkle)
  • Pinch of thyme
  • Black beans and corn (Can cook or buy black bean and corn salsa from local health food store like Whole Foods) Personally, this is what I did. But I am a college student and time is hard to come by!

Directions: Preheat over to 350 degrees. Spread marinara sauce over tortilla. Sprinkle cheese, black beans, and corn over marinara. Chop up fresh tomatoes and add on pizza. Spread a pinch of thyme, basil and onion as desired! Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes. If you are in a time crunch you can microwave it for 1-2 minutes. If you bake it in the oven it will have a crunchier crust. All about preference 🙂

Pizza with a spicy kick!

So we’ve got some motivation, a recipe, now for the calorie burning activity!

Lately, like everyone else in this world, I have been a little crunched for time! I chose to stick to some basic exercise guidelines and it has worked like a charm for me!

What I stick to:

Running 30 minutes 5x a week (These are heart pumping, sweat drenched sessions… I go big or go home with my cardio when time is limited. I usually do HITT training. Look for an upcoming post about this effecient interval training)

Full body weight lifting sessions 1 hour 3x a week

I encourage everyone to set some healthy guidelines for themselves when time is tight. Make them reasonable and you will be more likely to stick with it like a champ. 🙂

‘Tis the season to appreciate all of life’s beauty including a healthy YOU.

Happy Holidays to All!

Get fit. Get life.
